Maytag Appliances We Repair

Maytag Refrigerators

Maytag refrigerators share platforms with Whirlpool and use the same diagnostic systems. If you see PO on the display, power was interrupted. If you see H or HI, the temperature has exceeded safe limits.

Maytag French door and side-by-side refrigerators use adaptive defrost systems. When the defrost cycle fails, frost builds up on the evaporator coils and blocks airflow. The refrigerator runs constantly but does not cool properly. We diagnose and repair all Maytag refrigerator issues through our Maytag refrigerator repair service.

Common problems: not cooling, ice maker not working, water dispenser leaking, frost buildup, loud noise from fan.

Maytag Washers

Maytag washers display F-prefix error codes. F5 E2 means the door or lid cannot lock. F7 E1 means motor speed sensing error. F8 E1 or LO FL means low water flow. F9 E1 means long drain time.

If your Maytag washer shows UL, the load is unbalanced. Redistribute the clothes and restart. If UL keeps appearing, the suspension rods or shock absorbers may be worn. Bravos and Centennial top-loaders commonly develop agitation problems when the splutch or cam driver fails. We provide Maytag washer repair for top-load and front-load models.

Common problems: F5 E2 door lock error, not draining, not spinning, loud banging during spin, UL error code.

Maytag Dryers

If your Maytag dryer shows AF, the airflow is restricted. This is the most common Maytag dryer error. Clean the lint screen first. Then check the exhaust vent from the dryer to the wall and the exterior vent hood. The dryer will run with AF displayed, but drying times will be long and fire risk increases.

PF means power failure. Press and hold START to restart the cycle. L2 means low or no line voltage on one leg of the 240V circuit. Check both breakers. F# E# codes indicate control board problems requiring service. We fix all issues through Maytag dryer repair for gas and electric models.

Common problems: AF airflow error, not heating, drum not spinning, takes too long to dry, loud squeaking or rumbling.

Maytag Dishwashers

Maytag dishwashers have a 10-year limited warranty on the stainless steel tub, nylon racks, and chopper blade. If dishes come out dirty, the spray arms are likely clogged or the filter assembly needs cleaning.

Error codes on Maytag dishwashers follow the same format as Whirlpool. If the Clean light blinks 7 times, the heating element or thermistor has failed. If it blinks 8 times, the drain pump or check valve is blocked. We provide Maytag dishwasher repair for all models.

Common problems: not cleaning dishes, not draining, Clean light blinking, door not latching, water leaking from bottom.

Maytag Ranges and Ovens

Maytag ovens have a 10-year limited warranty on bake and broil elements, cooktop burners, ceramic glass tops, and grates. If your oven displays F1, the electronic oven control has failed. F2 means oven over-temperature. F3 or F4 indicates sensor circuit problems.

Gas range burners that click but do not ignite usually have dirty igniter electrodes or a failed spark module. Electric coil burners that do not heat have a burned-out element or failed receptacle. We provide Maytag oven repair for gas and electric models.

Common problems: oven not heating, burners not igniting, F-codes on display, uneven cooking, self-clean door stuck.

Common Maytag Appliance Problems

F5 E2 Error on Maytag Washer

F5 E2 is the most common Maytag washer error code. It means the door or lid cannot lock properly.

Check for clothing items blocking the door seal. Check for lint or detergent buildup in the door latch. Reset the washer by unplugging it for 30 seconds. If F5 E2 returns, the door lock assembly needs testing or replacement.

On top-load washers, F5 E2 indicates the lid switch or lid lock mechanism has failed. The lid switch is a safety device. The washer will not spin or agitate if it cannot verify the lid is closed and locked.

AF Error on Maytag Dryer

AF stands for Airflow Error. Your Maytag dryer detected restricted airflow through the vent system. This is the most common Maytag dryer problem and also the most dangerous if ignored.

To fix AF: Clean the lint screen. Remove the exhaust hose from the wall and check for lint buildup inside the hose. Go outside and verify the vent hood flap opens freely. Run the dryer on high heat for 5 minutes. Hold your hand at the exterior vent. You should feel strong airflow like a hairdryer on high.

If airflow is weak after cleaning, the vent run is too long, has too many turns, or is crushed behind the dryer. Maytag recommends maximum 25 feet for rigid metal duct with two 90-degree turns.

Maytag Washer Not Draining

If your Maytag washer stops with water inside, the drain system is blocked or the pump has failed.

Front-load washers have a drain pump filter behind a small access panel at the bottom front. Open it carefully with towels ready. Coins, hair ties, and small objects collect here. Top-load washers do not have an accessible filter. The drain pump (part W10876600 or W10536347) connects directly to the tub.

If the drain pump hums but does not pump water, the impeller is broken. If the pump makes no noise at all, check for 120V at the pump connector. No voltage means the control board is not signaling the pump to run.

Maytag Dryer Not Heating

Maytag electric dryers need 240 volts to heat. If one breaker trips, the drum turns but the heating element gets no power. Reset both breakers at your electrical panel.

If power is good, check the thermal fuse first. It is located on the exhaust duct inside the dryer. A blown thermal fuse has no continuity. The fuse is non-resettable. If it blew, the exhaust vent was restricted. Always clean the vent completely before replacing the fuse.

The heating element (part W10724237 or 35001247) should show continuity. A visible gap in the coil confirms failure. Gas dryers that glow orange but do not ignite have weak igniter or failed gas valve coils.

Maytag Refrigerator Not Making Ice

If your Maytag refrigerator ice maker stopped working, check freezer temperature first. The freezer must be at 0°F to 5°F for ice production. Warmer temperatures stop the ice maker from cycling.

Next, check the water filter. Maytag recommends replacing the filter every 6 months. A clogged filter reduces water flow to the ice maker. Check the water inlet valve (part W10408179) by listening for a hum when the ice maker calls for water. No hum means no signal from the ice maker or a failed valve.

Maytag ice makers share parts with Whirlpool. The ice maker module (part W10882923 or W11546935) is the same across both brands.

Maytag Washer Making Loud Noise

A loud banging noise during spin usually indicates an unbalanced load or worn shock absorbers on front-load washers. Redistribute the load first.

On Bravos and Centennial top-load washers, a grinding noise during agitation often means the splutch (part W10528947) has failed. The splutch is a clutch mechanism that switches between agitate and spin modes. When it wears out, the washer makes noise during agitation or fails to agitate at all.

A high-pitched squealing noise often indicates worn tub bearings. On front-load washers, bearing replacement requires removing the entire drum assembly and is a significant repair.

Maytag Dryer Takes Too Long to Dry

If your Maytag dryer runs for hours but clothes are still damp, the problem is almost always airflow restriction or a failed heating component.

Check the AF indicator. Even if AF is not displayed, restricted venting causes extended dry times. The moisture sensors inside the drum (two metal strips on the front of the drum) can also become coated with fabric softener residue. Clean them with rubbing alcohol.

If venting is clear and sensors are clean, test the heating element and thermal components. A cycling thermostat stuck open will allow the element to heat but shut it off too quickly.

Maytag Appliance Repair FAQ

F5 E2 means the door or lid cannot lock properly. On front-load washers, check for items blocking the door seal and clean the door latch of lint or detergent buildup. On top-load washers, the lid lock mechanism or lid switch may have failed. Reset the washer by unplugging for 30 seconds. If F5 E2 returns, the door lock assembly needs testing or replacement.

AF means Airflow Error. The dryer detected restricted airflow through the vent system. Clean the lint screen, check the exhaust hose for lint buildup, and verify the exterior vent hood opens freely. The dryer will continue running with AF displayed, but drying times will be long and fire risk increases. If AF persists after cleaning, the vent run may be too long, have too many turns, or be crushed.

Yes. Maytag washers have a 10-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and stainless steel wash basket. Maytag dryers have a 10-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and dryer drum. Maytag dishwashers have 10-year coverage on the tub, racks, and chopper. Maytag ovens cover heating elements and burners for 10 years. The first year includes parts and labor. Years 2 through 10 cover parts only. You pay for diagnosis and labor.

Yes, many parts are interchangeable. Whirlpool has owned Maytag since 2006. Both brands share platforms, and a single OEM part number often fits Maytag, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Amana, and JennAir appliances. This parts compatibility means better availability and faster repairs for Maytag owners.

UL means Unbalanced Load. The washer cannot spin because the clothes are bunched on one side. Open the lid, redistribute the items evenly around the drum, and restart. If UL keeps appearing with balanced loads, the suspension rods (top-load) or shock absorbers (front-load) may be worn and need replacement.

Maytag washers typically last 10 to 14 years. Maytag dryers last 10 to 13 years. Maytag refrigerators last 10 to 18 years depending on type. Maytag dishwashers last 9 to 13 years. Maytag ranges and ovens last 13 to 20 years for gas, 13 to 15 years for electric. The commercial-grade components in many Maytag models support longer lifespans with proper maintenance.

PF means Power Failure. A power interruption occurred during the drying cycle. Press and hold the START button to restart the cycle, or press POWER to clear the display. If PF appears without a power outage, there may be voltage fluctuations in your home electrical supply. Have an electrician check the circuit if PF keeps appearing.

Why Maytag Appliances Need Professional Repair

Whirlpool Parts Compatibility

Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006 for $2.7 billion. Today, Maytag appliances share platforms with Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Amana, JennAir, and Roper. A single part number often fits appliances across all these brands. This means faster repairs and lower parts costs. We stock common Maytag/Whirlpool parts on our service trucks.

10-Year Limited Parts Warranty

Maytag washers have a 10-year limited warranty on the drive motor and stainless steel wash basket. Maytag dryers have a 10-year limited warranty on the drive motor and dryer drum. Maytag dishwashers have a 10-year limited warranty on the tub, racks, and chopper. Maytag ovens have a 10-year limited warranty on heating elements and burners.

The warranty covers parts only after the first year. You pay for diagnosis and labor, but the part is free. We verify warranty status through Whirlpool during your service call.

Commercial-Grade Components

Many Maytag appliances feature what Maytag calls Commercial Technology (MCT). The drive system is tested to twice the normal appliance lifespan. This durability means repairs are often worthwhile even on older units. A 10-year-old Maytag washer with a failed lid lock is usually worth repairing. The core motor and transmission are built to last.

Made in America

Maytag washers are assembled in Clyde, Ohio, at the same facility that has produced Maytag appliances for over a century. This US manufacturing means parts remain available for older models longer than some imported brands.
