Frigidaire Appliances We Repair

Frigidaire Refrigerators

Frigidaire refrigerators display error codes where temperature readings normally appear. If you see SY EF, the evaporator fan circuit has failed. If you see H1 or HI, the temperature has exceeded safe limits. If you see SY CF, the main control board cannot communicate with the display.

Frigidaire uses Embraco compressors. Base and Gallery models use fixed-speed compressors. Professional models use variable-speed inverter compressors that require different diagnostic procedures. We handle both types through Frigidaire refrigerator repair service.

Common problems: not cooling, ice maker failures, frost buildup, water dispenser leaking, temperature fluctuations.

Frigidaire Washers

Frigidaire front-load washers display E-prefix error codes. E21 means water is not pumping out fast enough. Check the drain hose first. If clear, the drain pump (part 137221600) may need replacement. E52 means the motor tachometer signal is bad. E41 means the door switch reads open.

If your Frigidaire washer stops mid-cycle with clothes soaking wet, the drain pump or lid switch has likely failed. We diagnose and complete Frigidaire washer repair for front-load and top-load models.

Common problems: not draining, not spinning, error codes, loud noise during spin, water leaking from door.

Frigidaire Dryers

If your Frigidaire dryer runs but does not heat, check three things. First, verify both legs of the 240V circuit breaker are on. If one trips, the motor runs but the element cannot heat. Second, check the exhaust vent for blockage. Third, the thermal fuse (part 137032600) may have blown.

Error code E64 means the heating element has failed. Error code E4A means restricted airflow or dirty moisture sensor bars. We diagnose and complete Frigidaire dryer repair for gas and electric models.

Common problems: not heating, drum not spinning, takes too long to dry, loud squeaking, error codes on display.

Frigidaire Dishwashers

Error code i20 is the most common Frigidaire dishwasher problem. It means clogged filters or restricted drain. Clean the mesh filter and glass trap at the tub bottom first. If i20 continues, check whether the garbage disposal knockout plug was removed during installation. This oversight causes most new-install drainage failures.

If your dishwasher fills with water but dishes come out dirty, the spray arms may be clogged or the wash motor is failing. We fix all issues through Frigidaire dishwasher repair service.

Common problems: not draining (i20), not cleaning dishes, water leaking from door, not starting, loud grinding noise.

Frigidaire Ranges and Ovens

If your Frigidaire oven displays F10, disconnect power immediately. F10 means runaway oven temperature. The electronic oven control (EOC) or RTD temperature sensor has failed. A working RTD sensor reads 1080 to 1100 ohms at room temperature. Below 900 ohms or above 1200 ohms means the sensor needs replacement.

F30 means open RTD sensor circuit. F31 means shorted RTD sensor. Both require sensor testing before assuming the control board failed. Gas ovens that glow but do not ignite have weak igniters drawing less than 2.6 amps. We provide Frigidaire oven repair for gas and electric models.

Common problems: oven not heating, burners not igniting, F-codes on display, self-clean not working, uneven cooking.

Common Frigidaire Appliance Problems

Refrigerator Not Cooling

If your Frigidaire refrigerator stopped cooling, check the condenser coils first. Dirty coils cause 80% of cooling failures. The coils are behind the toe grille at the bottom front. Vacuum them if dusty.

If coils are clean, the problem is internal. If the freezer works but the fridge section is warm, the evaporator fan or damper control has failed. If neither section cools, check the compressor start relay. Shake it gently. A rattling sound means the relay has failed (part 241707701).

Error code H1 or HI means temperature has exceeded 26°F in the freezer or 55°F in the fridge. This requires immediate diagnosis to prevent food spoilage.

Ice Maker Not Working

Frigidaire ice makers have the highest failure rate of any component. Two CPSC recalls in 2022 and 2024 affected over 750,000 refrigerators due to ice maker assembly problems.

If your ice maker stopped, verify the freezer is at 0°F to 5°F. Warmer temperatures stop ice production. Check the water filter (replace every 6 months). Test the water inlet valve (part 242252702). A working valve reads 200 to 500 ohms. Water pressure must be at least 20 psi.

If the ice maker arm is stuck or ejector blades do not turn, the ice maker module needs replacement (kit IM117000 fits most top-freezer models.

Washer Not Draining

Error code E21 means water is not pumping out fast enough. Start with the simple fix: check for kinked drain hose or clogged drain filter.

Frigidaire front-load washers have a drain pump filter behind a small access panel at the bottom front. Open it, place a towel underneath, and clean the filter. Coins, hair clips, and small objects collect here.

If the filter is clear but E21 persists, the drain pump (part 137221600) may have a broken impeller. The pump runs but cannot move water. Replacement requires removing the front kick panel and disconnecting the pump wiring harness.

Washer Not Draining

GE washers may hold water at the end of a cycle due to: clogged drain pump, kinked drain hose, blocked drain filter, or failed lid switch (top-load models). Front-load GE washers have a drain pump filter behind a small access panel at the bottom front. Clean this filter first. If the pump runs but water does not drain, the pump impeller may be broken.

Dryer Not Heating

Frigidaire dryers need 240 volts to heat. If one leg of the circuit breaker trips, the drum spins but the element cannot heat. Reset both breakers first.

If power is good, check the exhaust vent. Restricted airflow triggers the thermal fuse (part 137032600). A blown thermal fuse shows no continuity on a multimeter. The fuse is non-resettable. If it blew, always clean the vent before replacing the fuse, or the new fuse will blow again.

The heating element (part 134792700) should show continuity. A visible break in the coil confirms failure. Gas dryers that glow orange but do not ignite have weak igniters or failed gas valve solenoids (should read 1200 to 1400 ohms).

Dishwasher Not Cleaning

If your Frigidaire dishwasher runs but dishes come out dirty, the problem is usually maintenance, not a failed part.

Clean the mesh filter and glass trap monthly. Remove the spray arms and clean the holes with a toothpick. Run hot water at the kitchen sink for 30 seconds before starting the dishwasher. Incoming water must be at least 120°F.

If cleaning performance does not improve, the wash motor or circulation pump may be failing. A humming motor that does not spin the spray arms needs replacement.

Oven Displays F10 Error

F10 is a critical error. It means runaway oven temperature. Disconnect power immediately to prevent fire risk.

The cause is either a failed RTD temperature sensor or a failed electronic oven control (EOC). Test the RTD first. It should read 1080 to 1100 ohms at room temperature. If the reading is normal, the EOC has failed and needs replacement.

Do not reset the breaker and continue using the oven. The F10 code indicates the oven cannot regulate temperature safely.

Control Board Failures

Frigidaire appliances use electronic control boards for all functions. Symptoms of failure: display shows random characters, buttons do not respond, appliance turns on and off randomly, or error codes that do not match any real problem.

Power surges cause most control board failures. If your Frigidaire appliance stopped working after a storm or power outage, the control board is the likely cause. Board replacement costs $150 to $300 for parts alone. We test downstream components (sensors, motors, thermistors) before condemning a board to avoid misdiagnosis.

Frigidaire Models We Service

Frigidaire (Base Tier)

Model numbers start with FF (example: FFTR for top-freezer refrigerators, FFSS for side-by-side). Base models use fixed-speed Embraco compressors, standard controls, and basic features. Repairs are straightforward. Parts are affordable and widely available.

Frigidaire Gallery

Model numbers start with FG (example: FGTR, FGSS, FGEF for ranges). Gallery adds Wi-Fi connectivity, Custom Flex Temp drawers, Smudge-Proof stainless steel, and Total Convection with Air Fry. Dishwashers run at 47 dBA. The added electronics mean more potential control board issues, but parts remain widely available.

Frigidaire Professional

Model numbers start with FP (example: FPRU for column refrigerators, FPEW for wall ovens). Professional models use variable-speed inverter compressors, dual ice makers, and PureAir Ultra II filtration. Only available in stainless steel.

Inverter compressor diagnostics differ from standard models. The compressor has three windings that must show identical resistance. Any variance over 1 ohm indicates failure. The inverter board requires both 120V AC and a 4 to 6V DC signal from the main board. Standard test cords do not work on these systems.

How to Find Your Model Number

Refrigerators: inside the fresh food section on the left wall or ceiling. Washers: inside the door frame or on the back. Dryers: inside the door frame. Dishwashers: inside the door on the left side. Ranges: behind the storage drawer on the frame.

Why Frigidaire Appliances Need Professional Repair

Electrolux Parts Ecosystem

Electrolux owns Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Tappan, White-Westinghouse, and Crosley. A single OEM part number often fits appliances across all six brands. This means better parts availability and lower backorder risk than many competitors. We have accounts with Frigidaire parts distributors for fast ordering.

Inverter Compressor Diagnostics

Frigidaire Professional refrigerators use variable-speed inverter compressors. These require specific diagnostic procedures that differ from traditional compressors. Testing the inverter board, verifying DC signal from the main board, and measuring winding resistance requires training and proper equipment.

Sealed System Certification

Refrigerator compressor, condenser, and evaporator repairs require EPA Section 608 certification. Federal law prohibits handling refrigerants without certification. DIY sealed system repair is illegal and voids warranty coverage.

Recall History

Frigidaire has been subject to 7 CPSC recalls between 2022 and 2025. Two ice maker recalls affected over 750,000 refrigerators. Range recalls covered electrical shock hazards. We check your model number against recall databases during diagnosis. If your appliance is under recall, we advise you on next steps with Electrolux.

Frigidaire Appliance Repair FAQ

The most common causes are dirty condenser coils, failed evaporator fan motor, defrost system failure, or compressor issues. If the freezer works but the fridge section is warm, the evaporator fan or damper control has failed. If neither section cools, the compressor start relay or compressor may have failed. Error code H1 or HI indicates temperature has exceeded safe limits.

SY EF means evaporator fan circuit failure. The main control board is not receiving feedback from the evaporator fan motor. Causes include ice buildup on fan blades, failed evaporator fan motor (part 242077702), or main control board failure. Check for ice buildup first. If the fan blades are clear but the fan does not run, the motor or board needs replacement.

Frigidaire had 7 CPSC recalls between 2022 and 2025. Two recalls affected over 750,000 refrigerators for ice maker assembly defects that could cause choking or laceration hazards. Other recalls covered gas cooktops (gas leak risk), rear-controlled ranges (electrocution risk), and electric ranges (fire risk). Check cpsc.gov with your model number or ask during your service call. We check recall status during diagnosis.

Frigidaire refrigerators last 10 to 14 years (industry average is 12 to 15). Washers last 10 to 12 years. Dryers last 8 to 10 years. Dishwashers last 7 to 10 years. Gas ranges last 15 to 20 years, which is Frigidaire’s strongest category. Gallery and Professional models may last 1 to 3 years longer due to higher-quality components.

Yes. Electrolux has owned Frigidaire since 1986 and also owns Gibson, Kelvinator, Tappan, White-Westinghouse, and Crosley. A single OEM part number often fits appliances across all six brands. This makes Frigidaire parts more available than many other brands and reduces backorder risk.

E21 means water is not pumping out fast enough. Check the drain hose for kinks first. Then clean the drain pump filter behind the small access panel at the bottom front of the washer. If E21 continues, the drain pump (part 137221600) may have a broken impeller and needs replacement.

It depends on the repair cost and appliance type. General rule: if repair costs more than 50% of replacement cost, consider replacing. Exception: Frigidaire gas ranges last 15 to 20 years, so a 10-year-old gas range is often worth repairing. Refrigerators and washers at 10 years are near end of expected lifespan, so weigh repair cost carefully. We provide honest assessments during diagnosis.
