GE Appliance Repair Services

GE Appliances traces back to 1907 and Thomas Edison’s company. They made America’s first electric refrigerator in 1925. Today, GE appliances are in half of all U.S. homes. If you own a GE refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, or range in Irving, we can fix it.

We provide GE appliance repair with same-day appointments for most service calls. Flat $80 diagnostic fee. If we complete the repair, the fee applies to your total. All repairs include a 6-month warranty on parts and labor.

GE runs four appliance brands: GE (core line), GE Profile (tech-forward), Café (customizable hardware and finishes), and Monogram (ultra-premium built-ins). Haier (China) bought the company in 2016 for $5.6 billion, but manufacturing stays in Louisville, Kentucky. We repair all four lines.

Common GE Appliance Problems

Refrigerator Not Cooling

GE refrigerators may stop cooling due to: failed compressor, faulty evaporator fan motor, dirty condenser coils, or defrost system problems. If the freezer works but the fridge section is warm, the evaporator fan or damper control may be the issue. If neither section cools, check the compressor and condenser fan first. GE refrigerators also use main control boards that can fail and cause cooling problems.

Ice Maker Not Making Ice

Samsung refrigerators may stop cooling due to: failed linear compressor, faulty evaporator fan, clogged condenser coils, or defrost system problems. Error codes like 22E, 41E, or 84E point to specific sensor failures. Linear compressors can fail within 5-7 years on some models. Samsung extended the compressor warranty to 10 years on many units. We diagnose the root cause before quoting repairs.

Oven Not Heating

GE ovens may not heat due to: faulty bake or broil element, failed igniter (gas models), bad oven sensor, or control board problems. Electric ovens use bake elements at the bottom and broil elements at the top. If one element works but not the other, replace the failed element. Gas ovens use igniters that glow and then open the gas valve. A weak igniter may glow but not get hot enough to open the valve.

Washer Not Draining

GE washers may hold water at the end of a cycle due to: clogged drain pump, kinked drain hose, blocked drain filter, or failed lid switch (top-load models). Front-load GE washers have a drain pump filter behind a small access panel at the bottom front. Clean this filter first. If the pump runs but water does not drain, the pump impeller may be broken.

Dryer Not Heating

GE dryers may run without heat due to: blown thermal fuse, faulty heating element, broken igniter (gas models), or clogged exhaust vent. Check the lint trap and exhaust vent first. Restricted airflow causes most dryer heating problems. If airflow is clear, the thermal fuse or heating element needs testing. GE gas dryers use glow bar igniters that can fail over time.

Dishwasher Not Cleaning

GE dishwashers may leave dishes dirty due to: clogged spray arms, worn wash impeller, low water temperature, or failed wash motor. Remove the spray arms and clean the holes with a toothpick. Check that water temperature reaches at least 120°F. If the motor hums but spray arms do not spin, the wash motor or impeller may need replacement.

Control Board Failures

GE appliances use electronic control boards for all functions. Symptoms of control board failure: display shows random characters, buttons do not respond, appliance turns on and off randomly, or error codes that do not match any real problem. Power surges damage control boards. GE Profile and Café models have more advanced boards that cost more to replace.

Why GE Appliances Need Professional Repair

Four Brand Tiers, Shared Engineering

GE, GE Profile, Café, and Monogram share many internal components. A technician who knows GE engineering can work across all four lines. Control boards, compressors, motors, and heating elements often cross over. This shared platform means parts are widely available and repairs are straightforward for trained technicians.

SmartHQ Diagnostics

GE Profile, Café, and some base GE models connect to the SmartHQ app. These appliances can send error codes and diagnostic data to a phone. However, interpreting the codes and knowing which part to replace requires technical training. The app shows symptoms. A technician finds the cause.

Sealed System Repairs

GE refrigerators use sealed systems with compressors, condensers, and evaporators. Sealed system repairs require EPA 608 certification, proper refrigerant handling, and leak detection equipment. DIY sealed system repair is not legal without certification. Our technicians are certified for sealed system work on all GE refrigerator models.

Parts Availability

GE Appliances manufactures in Louisville, Kentucky, and maintains a strong U.S. parts supply chain. Common parts are available same-day or next-day. Monogram and older model parts may take longer. We stock common GE parts on our trucks and have accounts with GE parts distributors for fast ordering.

GE Appliance Repair FAQ

Yes. We repair all GE brand tiers: GE (core), GE Profile, Café, Monogram, and Hotpoint. These brands share engineering and many parts cross over. Our technicians are trained on all four lines.

Yes. GE Appliances is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Haier has invested over $2 billion in U.S. manufacturing since the 2016 acquisition. Appliance Park in Louisville remains the main manufacturing hub. Monogram is made in Selmer, Tennessee.

Clicking sounds usually come from the compressor relay trying to start the compressor. If the compressor does not run after the clicking, the relay or compressor may be failing. Clicking from the back of the fridge near the bottom is often the condenser fan hitting something. Clicking from inside may be the defrost timer or damper control.

Press and hold the Start button for 3 seconds to cancel the current cycle. If that does not work, turn off the circuit breaker for 1 minute, then turn it back on. This resets the control board. If problems continue after reset, a component has failed and needs diagnosis.

GE ovens use F codes to indicate sensor or control problems. F0 or F1 usually means control board failure. F2 means oven temperature too high. F3 means oven sensor open circuit. F4 means oven sensor shorted. F7 means stuck button on the control panel. Write down the code and call for service. The code tells us where to start diagnosis.

GE refrigerators typically last 10 to 15 years. Washers and dryers last 10 to 13 years. Dishwashers last 9 to 12 years. Ranges and ovens last 13 to 15 years. Proper maintenance extends lifespan. We can assess your appliance and tell you if repair or replacement makes more sense.

We use genuine GE parts when available and appropriate. For some components, GE-compatible aftermarket parts offer equal quality at lower cost. We discuss parts options with you before ordering. All parts come with our 6-month warranty regardless of brand.
